surrounding recreational
There are a number of tourist attractions around Esperance, and plenty of things to do. In the town itself is the interseting Museum Village which hosts a number of historic buildings and other attractions including a gallery and craft shop. Also popular are fishing and diving. Fishing is great around the Esperance Jetty at the northern end of the Esplanade, although fishing charters are available if you'd prefer to go out on a boat.
Within Esperance Bay are around 100 small islands which are home to Australian Sea Lions, Cape Barren Geese, Dolphins, New Zealand Seals, Sea Eagles and plenty of other wildlife. Diving around the islands is popular, as is experienced diving to the various shipwrecks in the Bay of Isles including the Lapwing Wreck and the Sanko Harvest Wreck. You can also visit Woody Island, where you can camp on the secluded island. Around the town of Esperance itself there are also a number of tours, as well as to the nearby coastal National Parks. National Parks around Esperance include Cape Arid National Park which is east of Esperance at the beginning of the Great Australian Bight, Cape le Grand National Park between Esperance and the Cape Arid National Park, Peak Charles National Park which is north of Esperance, and Stokes National Park which is west of Esperance. All of the National Parks offer fantastic bushwalking and some glorious rocky beaches, as well as basic camping facilities.
